+ Great North Run 2008 (06/10/2008 - 15:48:56)
Myself and Deb Sawyer completed the Great North Run yesterday in very respectable times of 2hours 21mins and 2 hours 40mins - despite the aches and pains of today it was all very much worth it and we have raised almost £2,500 for C-R-Y - a very worthy cause indeed
Thank you to everybody who has donated money and supported us over the last few months - we both overcame injuries in order to run and were determined not to end up on the "Bus of Shame" at 10 miles which we thankfully avoided!
Thanks to everyone who has left flowers or visited Sarah's grave today, the pictures of the flowers are on the gallery page.
Apologies that the site hasn't been updated much recently, below are a list of events that have happened over the last few months, and also looking ahead to the anniversary of Sarah's death on April 19th.
* Sarah's gravestone has been in place for some time now, pictures are now on the website gallery
* Lutterworth Grammar School, Sarah's old school, have written to us asking if the school could present an award each year to a student who does well in Health and Social Care, a subject Sarah undertook and achieved a GNVQ in whilst at Lutterworth. We are most grateful to Lutterworth for thinking of Sarah in such high regard as this and will be visting the school in July to present this award to the succesful pupil this year - thanks goes to Mr Shardlow in particular.
* As well as this award, following the Netball match organised by Steph Sawyer last year which raised money for C-R-Y, a special achievement award named in Sarah's honour will now be presented to the most improved player of the netball team each year
* A poster carrying Sarah's name and pictures supporting the need for quicker results following sudden cardiac deaths has been unveiled by CRY and is in place at the pathology lab at the Royal Brampton Hospital - the Leicester Mercury covered this story in their paper.
* And finally, myself and Debbie Sawyer will be running this year's Greath North Run in Sarah's honour and raising money for CRY - the event is on the 5th October and you can sponsor us by visiting www.justgiving.com/remembersarah and www.justgiving.com/debsawyer - please donate if you haven't already!
Most of Sarah's old school friends went out for a Christmas meal last Sunday and had a few drinks on her which was very nice to hear about - we hope they all have a lovely Christmas this year.
It will be a very different Christmas for us this year, our first without Sarah and we will think about her all day as always.
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Today is a sad and special day as it would have been Sarah's 21st birthday. Thanks to everyone who has left messages both on the website and by sending cards, and to everyone who has left flowers by Sarah's grave. Pictures will be uploaded soon.
Below is a link to the online Leicester Mercury which carried an announcement. For those in the area that bought a paper its on page 46

Happy Birthday Sis xx
The inquest into Sarah's death was held today, with the coroner recording a verdict of accidental death caused by drowning.
This was arrived at after the pathologist described that Sarah's coronary artery contained a defect on the right side, and that this probably caused her to black out, and as she was in the bath slip under the water.
This has provided some form of closure and it was comforting to hear that if this is indeed what happened then Sarah would not have suffered in any way.
With Sarah's birthday coming up we have decided a fitting tribute was to have a star named in Sarah's memory.
The star is called "Sarah Charlotte Simpson 1986-2007", and is part of the Cygnus constellation and will be visible from the UK every September.
For those of you with access to Google Earth, you can see the star by switching to Google Sky, and typing in the address in the search facility (choose 'location search' as opposed to 'search the sky')

We have been advised that there is a charity specifically related to the cause of Sarah's death, www.c-r-y.org.uk
Please have a visit as it gives detailed information on the sudden adult death syndrome condition and its research and diagnosis.
Thanks again to everyone who has left messages and all 800+ of you who have vistied this site, as said before it is of great comfort to all the family
Thanks also to Aaron for submitting some great pictures of Sarah happy with her friends
First of all thanks to Margaret at Palmers for sending some photos of in Sarah - if anyone else has any, please send them to me will@rememberingsarah.com . Mobile Pictures can be uploaded email me if you have any.
Secondly - 600+ hits, something I never expected - thanks to everyone who has left a message and/or sent feedback to me, your comments are very comforting to all the family.
Thank you so much to Jenny Kirby for sending in photos of Sarah with her friends. It is great to see her looking relaxed and happy, and that she had such great friends. If anyone has any other photos of her on file or on their phone, please get in touch with me will@rememberingsarah.com . Many thanks
We have received the results back from the coroner regarding Sarah's death. It appears as though it was very sudden and instantaneous, and couldn't have been prevented which is of some comfort to us.
Wow - nearly 250 hits! Thanks to everyone who has visited and left a message, your thoughts are much appreciated
One other bit of news - The funeral directors have confirmed to us that over £1000 was raised in donations from Sarah's funeral, as advertised this will be spilt between the RSPCA and Kirby House Residential Home Care Fund, two charities very close to Sarah's heart.
Thanks again
The website is live and accessible by the world wide web, let me know what you think by submitting your feedback
The website is created! Bear with us, this is the first time I've ever done anything like this, but in these modern times it seems the best and most convenient way to set up some sort of tribute to Sarah. Sarah had many friends and a loving family and hopefully this will be a place for people to share memories and enjoy looking at photos and tributes.
I intend to make this website as interactive as possible (don't worry there'll be no premium rate phone line scams) so if you knew or were touched by Sarah or just want to get your ramblings published (Frank Evans from the Journal - one of Sarah's heroes!) then please, please, please sign our guestbook or alternatively email me Will@rememberingsarah.com with any feedback.
